Galileo sundial

Prolekte: Galilei-Sonnenuhr

The Galilei sundial is an equatorial sundial with a world noon scale. It is designed like an armillary sphere with a large equatorial and meridian ring and the tropics and polar circles. The gnomon (shadow rod) and the ring-shaped dial are parallel to the Earth's axis. Thus, this sundial allows the measurement of the true local time (WOZ) from 06.00 hrs to 18.00 hrs. In addition, a world time noon clock has been set up so that the true noon, i.e. 12.00 o'clock, is displayed for selected locations of different geographical longitudes. It thus vividly demonstrates the connection between differences in longitude and time on Earth.

Height is 1275 mm (from stainless steel round plate), the diameter of meridian ring is 980 mm. Stainless steel, glass bead blasted, partially gold plated. Stainless steel dial, fine finish. Lettering black chromated.

One-off production in 2006; no further replicas planned.
