The Classical Astrolabe

The astrolabe is an Earth-sky model with a stationary Earth and a rotating starry sky. Our modern rotating star charts are based on the same principle, except here, according to the Copernican system, the sky is stationary while the terrestrial reference lines are movable (horizon, altitude circles, azimuth lines). However, the astrolabe is based on the geocentric worldview of Ptolemy.

Warranty

Chronos Manufaktur grants a guarantee of two years on every new instrument and on the services carried out. This begins with the delivery or the service work date and includes possible manufacturing and material defects. Excluded from the guarantee are defects caused by improper use of the instruments, third-party intervention and the use of unsuitable care products. The consequences of normal wear and tear and ageing of the instruments are also excluded from the guarantee, as is damage caused by fire, water, loss, accident or negligence.

If one of our instruments shows defects within the warranty period, please contact us immediately.

Care instructions for brass instruments

Our instruments are made of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. Under the influence of oxygen and heat, brass oxidises and forms a matt patina over time. This patina is typical for brass and not only underlines the historical character of the instruments, but also protects the metal at the same time.

Care instructions Chronos Armillary sphere

The Chronos Armillarsphere is made of high-quality materials such as gold-plated brass, patinated bronze, stainless steel, anodised aluminium and lacquered wooden surfaces. Therefore, no special care is necessary because all components are refined to a high standard.
