Saturn

Prolekte: Saturn

A client from Luxembourg with a great passion for astronomy christened a new residential complex in his home town named Cassini. CHRONOS MANUFAKTUR designed and built a sculptural representation of Saturn and its rings in a puristically reduced and stylised form at his request.

In 1675, the Italian-French astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini (1625-1712) discovered the Cassini Division, named after him, within the ring system of the planet Saturn. This division appears as a gap in Saturn's ring and divides it into the A and B rings. However, the Cassini division is not a "gap" in the true sense of the word, but is partly filled with darker matter.

Total height 930 mm, diameter Saturn sphere 300 mm, Saturn ring 676 mm. Size ratio of Saturn, ring and Cassini division taken into account. Material: Anodised aluminium, load-bearing components 10 mm, Saturn ring and black bearing ring for the Cassini graduation 8 mm, Saturn sphere 3 mm thick.

One-off production in 2008; no replicas planned.
