Martin Brunold

From his childhood Martin Brunold has been interested in astronomy and in particular its history. He trained to be a teacher, and later a public servant, and since around 1995 he has worked as a professional maker of astrolabes. His interest was initially triggered by an astrolabe auction in Zürich (the Greppin Collection in 1975). The prices paid for these historical instruments turned out to be "astronomical", and so the only option was to build astrolabes himself. As he gained experience over the years, he added other instruments to his repertoire: armillary spheres, sundials, calculating machines, planetary machines, etc.

The first contact with Torsten Hiller several years ago has now developed into close co-operation and friendship.
